What makes a rhythm complex?
Both musicians and non-musicians frequently use the word “complex” to describe rhythms, but what makes a rhythm sound complex? This presentation will discuss a series of experiments designed to investigate how different characteristics interact to create perceived rhythmic complexity.

Vivid Landscapes
Join us for an evening of evocative musical storytelling as Capilano University’s Instrumental Ensemble presents a captivating concert of works focusing on bringing the visual world to your auditory experience. From Shirley Mier’s Deep Freeze, a modern composition that evokes a frozen world by immersing the audience in icy textures and chilling harmonies, to Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, an iconic work of Russian Romanticism in which the paintings of an art gallery are brought to life, to Ralph Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, a tuneful tour through the early 20th century English countryside, you’ll feel like you’ve been on a journey without leaving your seat.
